Description
A WIP (Work In Progress), to confirm that I in fact have not died.
This is a Sorn; a creature from C.S. Lewis' novel Out of the Silent Planet. The main character in the novel is terrified of them when he first witnesses their appearance (believing them to be evil beings), but later finds out that they are in actuality the gentle elders of the several races which inhabit Mars.
I wanted to get a sense of that gentle, contemplative look, but mixed with the nightmarish impressions of the initial assumption that the Sorns are malevolent:
"They were quite unlike the horrors his imagination had conjured up, and for that reason had taken him off his guard. They appealed away from the Wellsian fantasies to an earlier, almost infantile, complex of fears. Giants-ogres-ghosts-skeletons: those were its key words. Spooks on stilts, he said to himself; surrealistic bogy-men with their long faces."

nice sketch, glad to hear you're not dead...
in the uk SORN is a term used by the department of vehicle registration, it stands for Statutory Off Road Notice. if a vehicle is not being kept on a public highway and is not drivable it has to be declared sorn which means you don't have to pay road tax for it. a somewhat bland fact and disappointingly of no relevance to CSLewis or your drawing, but that's what you get at 6.45am before going to work! sorry...
